about

An old song originally penned when I was in high school around 2010. First drafted for Heartland Avenue but scrapped and later reworked and reconsidered for Homecoming but scrapped once again. It was also considered for Double Edged Sword, Carpe Diem, and Carpe Noctem, but until now has never made the cut on any album until this one.

lyrics

She looks down as she walks away
And now there's so much I could say
Am I ready for this? Almost, not quite.
She continues on as she believes
Nothing's going on but I can see
Something deeper shining bright
And it takes so much believin' to see herself in me
I don't know if it's gonna work out. I guess we'll see.
She wants me here but it's not the same
She turns on the heat to fan the flames
It's enough to drive me insane
She touches me and I shine like gold
She's everything I've not been told
She's ninety miles of dead end road
I can't breathe and it makes no sense
She breathes through me with old suspense
It's all that's inside me that keeps her near
I stopped her on my way around
I asked a question, she made no sound
She speaks in static that I can't hear
I believe she likes me better when I'm too serious for me
And I'm wondering where my head is, I guess we'll see
She wants me here but it's not the same
She turns on the heat to fan the flames
It's enough to drive me insane
She touches me and I shine like gold
She's everything I've not been told
She's ninety miles of dead end road
She's got me pacing by the phone
She says I'm right then proves me wrong
I've been on this road for way too long
I don't know where this thing ends
I can't tell where she begins
And where we are now
But who am I kidding?
This is where we've always been
And with one hand on her heart and one hand on my shoulder
She whispers in my ear and says "we'll see"
She wants me here but it's not the same
She turns on the heat to fan the flames
It's enough to drive me insane
She touches me and I shine like gold
She's everything I've not been told
She's ninety miles of dead end road
She says "I'll think about it"
So go on and think about it
I guess I'll think about it
