Paranoid 02:34
You can only tell so many lies Before even the truth puts you in doubt My name must leave a bad taste in your mouth Cause you can't quit spittin' it out Well you're gonna try to push me around That doesn't mean I'm gonna let ya I've come to know that just cause you ain't paranoid Don't mean the world ain't out to get ya Looks like it's me against the world All the world you try and deceive But when I've got nothing to hide or nothing to prove Who are they gonna believe? I'm not gonna knock you down or drag you out But I hope your messed up ego fits ya Somebody told me just cause you ain't paranoid Don't mean the world ain't out to get ya You can only tell so many lies Before even the truth puts you in doubt But I'm content not representing A single thing you're talking about I'm everything except afraid But I'm probably the one that should feel threatened Just goes to show that just cause you ain't paranoid Don't mean the world ain't out to get ya Somebody told me just cause you ain't paranoid Don't mean the world ain't out to get ya I've come to know that just cause you ain't paranoid Don't mean the world ain't out to get ya

Last Lines 03:04
When we were young did you ever once think That we'd ever end up here Laying side by side Enough that you would reconsider The potential for a mistake that you might make If you left this all behind Well it's just a risk worth taking I guess When you know you can do better and I'm far from the best But who in their right mind could write this song for you? Honey I ain't no cowboy and this is the best I can do So you wake up one morning on some lonely interstate Driving off into the distance and carrying the weight Of a thousand memories Until you meet some prince and start spending your nights With Amsterdam's finest til he shuts out the lights And in his arms you fall asleep But still you crawl into your hole of constant doubt With a conscience so strong that you can't get out But freedom has never been that far out of reach It's just a small price to pay for not practicing what you preach Sometimes I think about her when I'm standing alone She's left a few scars around And a piece of my youth He's gonna write her endless poems about how he feels And he leaves them on the night stand You know you never can tell But she believes he's telling the truth But last night I had me a funky little dream Where she was on a red eye flight And she was twisting her ring That wouldn't be right but neither is waking up alone Left with his imprints on her bedsheets And the last lines of a drunken love song

Dream 05:09
Looking back now through the years Life ain't what it used to be Back before these hopeless fears Lives were happy, minds were free I remember back when time was precious Now we all just waste the day Watching raindrops paint the concrete An even deeper shade of gray Will someone please tell me where to stand? Because I don't know where I'm at Will someone please tell me the answer That nobody wants to reply back? Have yourself another dream But don't let it go, you've got to let it grow for me Have yourself another thought You once believed was lost, give it another shot for me People these days, I don't understand them And all their manipulating schemes They try to control what we believe in They try to destroy all our dreams And then they tell us what to do next And who exactly we should be But we're not part of some silly little complex And we don't need two eyes to see Someone tell me where to stand Because I don't know where I'm at Someone please tell me the answer Nobody wants to reply back Keep holding on Keep holding on now We must be strong Don't be too afraid to believe

Pennyroyal 03:44
From rolling hills and valleys To narrow streets and alleys We saw it all through the windshield Cars passing by, road rising high Just us and two lanes through the fields From sunshine to starlight From dawn til dusk We rode on without a care I turned on the air, and you let down your hair And there was nothing but freedom out there Along for the ride You by my side We kept on riding down the track So far away, far from today Now there's no turning back Now all we have is today Somehow you faded away The green hills faded to black And now we've gone off track The blue skies faded to gray I don't remember the way To get back to places we claimed And all the streets we named

Gone just like the wind We'll be here once again Twice as fast, twice as wild Life awaits you, child From the city you belong To the small town I call home Our roots are taken for granted As we part from seeds we planted And... Everything will be alright If you travel alone tonight Someone always there Someone always cares Everything will be alright At the distant break of Spring We heard the chapel bells ring Out where the freeway meets Dark claustrophobic streets The beauty of the history The darkness of the tragedy Shadowed pain in an old man's eyes From the tears a young man cries Are you still there? Is your heart still beating? Are you alone tonight? Take my hand and we'll walk down These haunted streets of Elizabethtown Where you live by your heart dedicated to Do the best that you can and that's all you can do That's all you can do Everything will be alright If you travel alone tonight Someone always there Someone always cares Everything will be alright

Neath the moon's pale light I walk outside To begin my search tonight The scent that I smell is the air that's so stale Battered from rain and hail Do you see me? Do you see me? Do you see me as I search for you? I walk through debris, It's like a bad dream Your name I begin to scream The feelings remain, yeah feelings of pain As I walk through the fog and the rain Do you hear me? Do you hear me? Do you hear me as I call for you? I find my way home, I sleep by the phone So that I'm not so alone And all through this town, the sirens still sound As I lay in this bed underground Do you feel me? Do you feel me? Do you feel me as I feel for you?

I was far too young to remember Those mountains in the rearview mirror Or the paint on the sign that read "Harlan County Line" But now I see it all so clear How it's just a part of life To find where you belong And just how much you can take And just how far you bend before you break My name was caught up in the crosshairs All the way up since junior high We all had enemies. We all held grudges growing up. But now they're the ones that seem to smile passing by Hell it's just a part of life To find where you belong And just how much you can take And just how far you bend before you break I never knew what it was like to lose everything you own But now I think I understand Since I seen her stumble through the ashes And the burnt black stains on her hands It's just a part of life To find where you belong And just how much you can take And just how far you bend before you break Every now and then I catch wind Of things going on back home Like the hardest of times when they shut down the mines And big time offices were hanging up their phones With their SUV's getting paid off Single parents getting laid off Man, how much more can you shake? And how far can you bend before you break? He stood at the foot of the mountain With a strained back and smoky lungs Staring out at the weary machinery Thinkin' what a strange world it's become But it's just a part of life To find where you belong And just how much you can take And just how far you bend before you break

She's afraid of mountains But she ain't afraid to move them She's not scared to face her fears When there's no one there to soothe them She is not afraid to fight And stand up for her rights She's afraid of mountains But she's sure not afraid to climb She's had just about enough of society's games She's out to change the world but it still spins the same She's independent, not sentimental She's gonna stay strong She knows sometimes it's better to hold off than to hold on She's got her mind set on how the world ought to be She's gonna make it that way with no help from me Or any other man that comes into her life She makes it on her own cause that's the way she likes She's independent, not sentimental She knows her time on Earth is a rental And now it's time to let her soul climb

Starcrossed 04:23
Would you like something to dream of? Could I offer you a breath? Because you look like you could use some fresh air And you can leave out all the rest Don't you wanna fall asleep? Hey, don't you wanna fall asleep? Are you wide awake and restless Dreaming up what we could be? Don't you wanna fall asleep? Hey, don't you wanna fall asleep? Cause looking up all night at the stars so bright Can make you feel so weak We've all been hurt. We've all been hurtful. We've all been cheated and used. So let's make the best of this unity we still have Before it's stripped away and abused And when you say that I can't hold you I deserve much more than that And if you're thinking about throwing in the towel Well maybe we should before we start thinking about turning back Would you like something to dream of? Could I offer you a breath of fresh air?

It was many moons ago but it still gives me chills When I remember how you tasted from here to Nowhereville With a pennyroyal essence and the fraction of a smile And the silence of your phone not ringing all this while You're some kind of clever aren't you? I'm still waiting for the call But I'm sick of effortless pacing Do you remember me at all? Do you remember me at all? Well of course you do Cause no one else would listen to you talk about your mother How your daddy never cried And how nobody helped your brother when he couldn't be satisfied You say I never listened but I heard you pretty well Cause all your favorite songs still ring inside my head just like a bell But now it's getting late, but I can still relate To all the hearts you tamed and all the streets we named So please don't fade away Please don't fade away Cause no one else would listen to you I'm just another heart you tamed...

Tease Me 04:33
So it looks like you've been sold About time you come around you start to leave again Right when I start to believe again You're like a lost and found that's been lost again But I'm not ready to give up on you my friend Once again you try and tease me But you're the only one that could ever please me So go ahead and cut your corners I'll go ahead and pay it forward After all you were my only friend I'm in between and you're appointed My words went dry and you were anointed But you'll be disappointed in the end Then again, maybe I'm the one that's losing Hey, today's just another day And I'm still out of the way Waiting for the call That tells me I've either won or lost it all You're like a lost and found that's lost it all But I'm just around the corner at no cost at all Once again you try and tease me You know just how to capture and release me So it looks like you've been sold About time you come around...

Open seas beyond, so much life ahead of me But I keep wanting to drop my anchor in the sea No time for rest now, I tell myself I'll sleep when I'm dead See I live for the innocent white lies in my head This trip's getting longer This ship's getting stronger I can feel it ride against the waves Through rain, sleet and hail And I'll pray for smooth sailing Maybe I'll rest my weary heart someday I talk to the captain, he said "Son, you're bound to be free." But I'm not sure that's how I planned my life to be I guess I really have changed He said "Son, where's your heart and where's your soul?" I said "That ship's already set sail many years ago." Things have calmed down some I think my ship's reached the shore But I can't help but feel like there's just something more So despite where I've been I shove off and set sail again The clouds are just as dark but my hair is growing thin I live for the innocent white lies I live for the innocent white lies I live for the innocent white lies in my head I live for the innocent white lies I live for the innocent white lies I live for the innocent white lies in my head I live for the innocent white lies I live for the innocent white lies I live for the innocent white lies in my head I live for the innocent white lies I live for the innocent white lies So lie to me and tell me there's calm seas ahead...

We raced along the avenue We passed up all the signs Warning us of what's to come We should have kept between the lines But we swerved into the fast lane Racing all the lights Wasting all the days So dreams would come sooner at night We're here for a moment and then we're gone No one stays here on this avenue long Don't waste your life afraid of pleasure We're just here for a whisper We die amongst the screams Of our hearts crying out For all the unfulfilled dreams Dreams we left out on the avenue For our brothers to receive And try to figure out what they mean We're just here for a whisper And then we die amongst the screams We left our marks on the pavement Not knowing what was in store We took advantage of the gold Then we politely asked for more We begged for forgiveness But never could forget This dream we locked inside our hearts And no way to open it But we're not so far apart No, that ocean ain't so wide Cause the moon you see up in your sky Is the same moon I see tonight Why waste our lives seeking empty treasure?
