The Cadence

from Homecoming by Ryan Garrett

/

about

I wrote this in college about some of the strange relationships I saw.

lyrics

Well maybe I'll just pretend
Like I know what I'm doing
I'll stand here til you shake me
And tell me I've gone crazy
But the sun is so bright now
That your golden hair is burning around
This atmosphere, so turn away my dear
Before I find myself in lust again
I see it all so clear
It's time to face my fears
Don't you know I've worked hard on this broken heart?

Those drums off in the distance
The pounding's not as intense
As the heat that starts to rise
Past the cadence of your eyes
But my soul plays with me
And my eyes so I can't see
Through this atmosphere
So turn away until it's clear
So I can earn myself some trust again
Then turn around once more
We've seen it all before
Just listen back again and let it take you in

Stuck in your atmosphere
But I'm not sure what I'm doing here
Cause she's got golden tones
And I am just flesh and bone
So I'm out of here
So turn away my dear
Before I find myself in love again
