about

I wrote this song back in the Sixth Gear days. I think it was about ending a relationship that was doomed to fail from the beginning before it's too late. I think there's a point where you can't drag something out anymore in fear of total resentment. It's basically the narrator asking the other person if she wants to put this to rest for good, and if so to make the best of what's left of their relationship while things are still good. The music for this song came about because all of our songs were relatively heavy and I wanted to write a ballad. My guitar instructor at the time, Steve, had taught me some really melodic chord structures and I decided to use one for this song. I basically wanted to write a song that Steve would want to play. He passed away before it was ever recorded, but I still want to believe he's listening.

Originally written for Sixth Gear. Previously Unreleased.

lyrics

Would you like something to dream of?
Could I offer you a breath?
Because you look like you could use some fresh air
And you can leave out all the rest

Don't you wanna fall asleep?
Hey, don't you wanna fall asleep?
Are you wide awake and restless
Dreaming up what we could be?
Don't you wanna fall asleep?
Hey, don't you wanna fall asleep?
Cause looking up all night at the stars so bright
Can make you feel so weak

We've all been hurt. We've all been hurtful.
We've all been cheated and used.
So let's make the best of this unity we still have
Before it's stripped away and abused

And when you say that I can't hold you
I deserve much more than that
And if you're thinking about throwing in the towel
Well maybe we should before we start thinking about turning back

Would you like something to dream of?
Could I offer you a breath of fresh air?
