Here we are now staring love and hate in the face And laughing at the conflict I never needed anything so strong Now perhaps I've become an addict Let's take the long way home Lest you need to be alone And yeah it scares me to see Something I've never believed in right in front of me I'm not clinging to the limbs of this cliche I'm just holding on before it slips away I spent my whole life just searching for the truth I had my doubts and then found out I needed you A bit shaken up but I won't run and hide I'm not giving up, I'm still on your side Looking back I see this mystery Unfolding into our history I never thought it could mean this to me A love so blistering, so contradictory And when the morning comes Don't it cut you like a knife? Be it for good or bad Watching the dreams we had begin to come to life Let's take the long way home A little more time before the moment is gone Less time to be apart No more time spent alone Because I'll hold onto you Look around wherever you are There will be no more playing hide and seek in the dark

The Cadence 03:17
Well maybe I'll just pretend Like I know what I'm doing I'll stand here til you shake me And tell me I've gone crazy But the sun is so bright now That your golden hair is burning around This atmosphere, so turn away my dear Before I find myself in lust again I see it all so clear It's time to face my fears Don't you know I've worked hard on this broken heart? Those drums off in the distance The pounding's not as intense As the heat that starts to rise Past the cadence of your eyes But my soul plays with me And my eyes so I can't see Through this atmosphere So turn away until it's clear So I can earn myself some trust again Then turn around once more We've seen it all before Just listen back again and let it take you in Stuck in your atmosphere But I'm not sure what I'm doing here Cause she's got golden tones And I am just flesh and bone So I'm out of here So turn away my dear Before I find myself in love again

Movin' On 04:08
I left in a cloud of dust, told nobody goodbye I didn't even frown, they couldn't hold me down Breaking free from the ties that bind And now that I'm back to myself A lot's been on my mind The loneliness is gonna get the best Of me in it's own time Well maybe I'm overthinking it all Maybe there's just nothing wrong Time to put my anxiety behind me And find where I belong Cause people tend to ask me How I'm doing all the time From what I can tell I'm holdin' on And I tried to stay strong For way too long Now all I can say is I'm movin' on I'm movin' on Well I'm movin' on I'm on the road to somewhere I'm not sure I belong It seems every day the radio plays these same old lonesome songs Tennessee is just another mile, Carolina's another turn A change of season and for no reason I'm thinking about her Well maybe there's more than I gave credit for Maybe she's the one But I'll think it all through some other time Cause now I'm right where I belong Tried staying strong for way too long And now I'm movin' on Steady hands as the wheels keep turning The less I know the more I'm learning The sun's about to set I'm movin' on ahead I left in a cloud of dust, told nobody goodbye From what I can tell, I'm holdin' on Steady hands as the wheels keep turning The less I know, the more I'm learning All I can say is I'm movin' on I stayed strong, and now I'm too far gone Gotta keep movin' on...

Long Way 03:51
Along these streets of suicide I'm finally waking up inside To see a stranger in you now The way I've seen him push you around Pretty soon girl you are bound To find the long way down And it's a long way from Philly to L.A. But I'd drive it if I had to If it would take me to you Along this road of love and hate You'll find people that don't appreciate All the love you trap inside It's like a ghost that haunts this trail A spirit inside you, screaming "You've failed" Or was it just him all this time? And if the road you're on goes nowhere Then why take it on full throttle? It's like cutting the anchor off your ship Only to find that it was in a bottle And now you're numb and afraid Is that what you asked for? Cause it's a long way from Dublin to Monterrey But I'd fly it if I had to Well maybe I ought to someday

Last Lines 03:02
When we were young did you ever once think That we'd ever end up here Laying side by side Enough that you would reconsider The potential for a mistake that you might make If you left this all behind Well it's just a risk worth taking I guess When you know you can do better and I'm far from the best But who in their right mind could write this song for you? Honey I ain't no cowboy and this is the best I can do So you wake up one morning on some lonely interstate Driving off into the distance and carrying the weight Of a thousand memories Until you meet some prince and start spending your nights With Amsterdam's finest til he shuts out the lights And in his arms you fall asleep But still you crawl into your hole of constant doubt With a conscience so strong that you can't get out But freedom has never been that far out of reach It's just a small price to pay for not practicing what you preach Sometimes I think about her when I'm standing alone She's left a few scars around And a piece of my youth He's gonna write her endless poems about how he feels And he leaves them on the night stand You know you never can tell But she believes he's telling the truth But last night I had me a funky little dream Where she was on a red eye flight And she was twisting her ring That wouldn't be right but neither is waking up alone Left with his imprints on her bedsheets And the last lines of a drunken love song

I was far too young to remember Those mountains in the rearview mirror Or the paint on the sign that read "Harlan County Line" But now I see it all so clear How it's just a part of life To find where you belong And just how much you can take And just how far you bend before you break My name was caught up in the crosshairs All the way up since junior high We all had enemies. We all held grudges growing up. But now they're the ones that seem to smile passing by Hell it's just a part of life To find where you belong And just how much you can take And just how far you bend before you break I never knew what it was like to lose everything you own But now I think I understand Since I seen her stumble through the ashes And the burnt black stains on her hands It's just a part of life To find where you belong And just how much you can take And just how far you bend before you break Every now and then I catch wind Of things going on back home Like the hardest of times when they shut down the mines And big time offices were hanging up their phones With their SUV's getting paid off Single parents getting laid off Man, how much more can you shake? And how far can you bend before you break? He stood at the foot of the mountain With a strained back and smoky lungs Staring out at the weary machinery Thinkin' what a strange world it's become But it's just a part of life To find where you belong And just how much you can take And just how far you bend before you break

Is there a reason? Is there a cause? Do you feel completed? Or are you lost? In this great big world have you found your way? Do you know what I mean when I can't find the words to say The tracks that you walked, the words that we talked Still haunt my atmosphere Things we used to do, all that we've been through It still haunts me though you're not here And I wonder where you are I lay right where I used to lie On the day you said that you were leaving I could've cried But that would have been the hardest goodbye A clean uniform, a light packed suitcase A synchronized watch, and a picture of her face In this great big world I hope you found your way I hope you know what I mean when I can't find the words to say The tracks that you walked, the words that we talked Still haunt my atmosphere Things we used to do, all that we've been through It still haunts me though you're not here Whoever said a grown man doesn't cry Has never had a broken heart in their life Whoever said that this would all be easy Never saw someone they looked up to leaving And when it's all said and done And the wars are all gone There'll be a little one screaming, tears streaming "Don't look now, daddy's marching home!"

Paranoid 03:01
You can only tell so many lies Before even the truth puts you in doubt My name must leave a bad taste in your mouth Cause you can't quit spittin' it out Well you're gonna try to push me around That doesn't mean I'm gonna let ya I've come to know that just cause you ain't paranoid Don't mean the world ain't out to get ya Looks like it's me against the world All the world you try and deceive But when I've got nothing to hide or nothing to prove Who are they gonna believe? I'm not gonna knock you down or drag you out But I hope your messed up ego fits ya Somebody told me just cause you ain't paranoid Don't mean the world ain't out to get ya You can only tell so many lies Before even the truth puts you in doubt But I'm content not representing A single thing you're talking about I'm everything except afraid But I'm probably the one that should feel threatened Just goes to show that just cause you ain't paranoid Don't mean the world ain't out to get ya Somebody told me just cause you ain't paranoid Don't mean the world ain't out to get ya I've come to know that just cause you ain't paranoid Don't mean the world ain't out to get ya

Let's get out of this town for a while Give em time to comprehend why we've gone wild That we're feeling something the world could never offer us Well I know a hundred places that we could go Get away with murder and no one would know But I'm sick of trying to steal you when you're mine anyway So let's just not go Just the scent of you could bring me through the hardest of times The thought of you could smooth out all of my crooked lines Well I'm in, are you feeling this? I hope that you're not sleeping I'd hate to wake you up Cause you look so peaceful while you dream You're my bare necessity You're what I need They'll try to tell us that we've done something wrong Like we've committed some crime and we're not that strong We're both just feeling something that they could never offer us There's a million excuses why I can't keep you And there's a million more why I can't leave too You feel smaller than me but I was smaller than you once knew Every day I hear your whispers like they're setting me straight But I swear it's nothing new if I can't concentrate Let's get this out of our systems You know that it won't last And if it's all over tonight, yeah When tomorrow comes this will all be in the past

She's had just about enough of society's games She's out to change the world but it still spins the same She's independent, not sentimental She knows not to hold on to the things that make her weaker She knows she's got to stay strong She's afraid of mountains But she ain't afraid to move them She's not scared to face her fears When there's no one there to soothe them She is not afraid to fight And stand up for her rights She's afraid of mountains But she's sure not afraid to climb She's had just about enough of society's games She's out to change the world but it still spins the same She's independent, not sentimental She's gonna stay strong She knows sometimes it's better to hold off than to hold on She's got her mind set on how the world ought to be She's gonna make it that way with no help from me Or any other man that comes into her life She makes it on her own cause that's the way she likes She's independent, not sentimental She knows her time on Earth is a rental And now it's time to let her soul climb

Homecoming 04:35
I walked out of that stadium smiling After the meeting with the faceless crowd That autumn night was as bright as daylight shining The moonlight is the best thing to guide you around But it don't bother me Watching the sunset without you It don't bother me going back alone It don't bother me, I'm as happy as can be Just because I know I'm going home And yes I know that I may be guilty But you know that your hands, they ain't so clean But to this day I believe that mountain sunrise Was the most beautiful thing I ever seen I walked out of that stadium smiling After the meeting with the faceless crowd This was probably the darkest time of your life Because you didn't have the moonlight to guide you around
